Local Missional Leaders

In August, two information events were held to introduce and discuss the new Local Missional Leader (LML) initiative. Attendees were invited to share their perspectives by responding to three questions: what aspects they Celebrate, any Concerns they may have, and Questions they would like addressed. The summary below highlights a selection of the feedback received during these sessions.

The circuit is addressing matters which have been shelved. God is moving us forward and we're responding At least we are looking to the future The gifts that the circuit has. Some churches are doing things already. The love between people and how they help each other. New Plan and ways of worship. Feeling some form of freedom and moving on in mission. Number of church members attending the meetings. People are being made to think about their faith and how to reach others on the outside. Exciting about different services. It's good to worship together. Opportunities for new ideas - exciting times ahead.
Celebrations
Lots to do/time to achieve new ways of working. Limited time for a work in progress. That we need to have someone who we can contact if we need to. To put that on noticeboard. There is a lot of negativity. Tired people don't make good mission leaders. Sort out Governance. Same conversations again. Its at least 3rd time we've done this. Ageing congregation. Where are the people to fulfil these church-based roles in a very small church Not sure we are going to get all this in situ in 12 months. We need team to stay longer to get these things established otherwise lack of continuity. Who is going to do day to day care of the buildings and finance Timescale for profile for stationing. Lack of open-mindedness to change and trying something different Will churches work together willingly Too inward looking - if people won't come to us, we need to go out to them. So many of us feel we are doing all we can. Too hung up on buildings.
Concerns
Could a local mission leader support a group of churches if some joined together? What's the role of the clergy in all this? How do we inspire others to see wider vision? Can we have more of these events? Where do local preachers fit in? - no mention of them Is it the right name? Does everyone know what is meant by 'missional'? How can the local member voice their opinion if the church council is taken over by an outsider? Do we really need 20 places of worship? We have enough resources to fellowship together in perhaps 4 venues. How do we walk together as a circuit without being dragged back by the geographical locations? What is the next step? Is there a timeline? When, where and how can we celebrate communion?
